Here is some information about local clubs and teachers of Chess, Go and other traditional board games

Clubs for Children

Cambridge Junior Chess & Go Club This club! We have meetings on Wednesdays at St Augustine's Church hall in the north of Cambridge and on Thursdays at St Philip's Church in the south of Cambridge.

ALCA The Anglia Learning Chess Academy meets on Fridays during term time at Sawston Village College and is aimed at Year 6 and over (not beginners). The meetings are from 6pm-8pm. For more information contact Paul Kemp (paulkemp64 at gmail dot com)

CCA The Cambridge Chess Academy runs fortnightly chess club and coachings sessions for children.

Chess Steps The online club Chess Steps runs on Fridays at 5pm and Saturdays at 6:30pm. Each session is one hour. They have many children from Cambourne and Cambridgeshire attending. Chess Steps also offer online one to one chess coaching.

Cambridge Online Go There are online Go sessions for children on Tuesdays in the Cambridge Junior Group of the OGS Go Server. At the moment these are from 5:30pm to 7pm, they are a mixture of friendly games and some teaching games with adults.

Cherry Hinton Chess There are chess sessions at Cherry Hinton Hall on Saturday afternoons. These are in three levels: Beginners 12-1pm, Improvers 1-2pm, Intermediate/Advanced: 3-4:15pm. For more information contact Daniel (chess4rookies at gmail dot com).

CU Go Society The Cambridge University Go Society has been running some teaching sessions for children on Sunday afternoons from 2:30pm to 4pm. These usually only run in the autumn and spring terms but there will probably be a few sessions after Easter. Contact paul361smith at gmail dot com for more information.

School Clubs Many local schools have chess clubs and/or teams, including King's, St Faiths, St Matthews, Sancton Wood, The Perse, Cambourne Village College, Soham Village College, Newnham Croft, St Pauls, St Johns, Olive Academies and Milton. There are Go clubs at St Faiths, the Perse Upper, Milton and St Mary's. There's a Chess & Go Club at the Stephen Perse Foundation.

Private Lessons

Chess Steps (see above) offer online one-to-one chess coaching.

Paul Smith offers private Go lessons to individuals or groups, either in person or online. He can also do a one-off introductory session to a group of children of the rules of any of these games: Go, Shogi, Chinese Chess, Oware.

Clubs for All Ages

City Chess Club The Cambridge City Chess Club meets at St Augustines Church Hall on Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm.

CUGS The Cambridge University Go Society meets on Sunday afternoons during the university autumn and spring terms only.
